"We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more." - Carl Gustav Jung

Full Moon In Capricorn and the Week Ahead

Coming off a week of sunshine and warmth like we've had in New England, has been wonderful and it looks like another warm week ahead with intermittent thundershowers. This typical summer weather makes it hard to focus on work, but that's what we must do with the present lunar energy! The Capricorn Full Moon highlights responsibility, whether in your career, to your job or to your family. Even though the Full Moon culminated early Friday morning, we are still in the "days of distribution" of its' energy.

The impact of this Full Moon may seem mild in comparison to the last two New Moons and earlier Full Moon on June 15th all being highlighted by eclipses! However, if we flesh out the symbolism of this current soli-lunar cycle and notice where the "Lights", as the Sun and Moon are called, are in the night sky, I feel the significance can be substantial. At this time of year, the Sun is highest in the sky, in the northern hemisphere, getting a lot of attention during the longer days, especially if spent at the beach... while the Moon is lower in the sky during the shorter summer nights.

With the Sun in watery Cancer, the focus is on emotional ties, particularly to home and family, with the added pre-occupation of keeping ones' feeling from being hurt during this emotionally vulnerable time. Like this zodiac sign's symbol, the Crab, Cancerians can appear to have a hard shell but they are actually hiding their sensitivity. Needing a safe and nurturing home is what we all want so that on a gut level, we feel secure. When the Sun and Moon are in opposition at this time of year, the Full Moon occurs in Capricorn - the sign opposite it's rulership, where it is said to be in it's debility. That sets up a dynamic of what I think of as "have-tos" and "want-tos". In other words, those things we must do first, like provide for our families and pay our bills, etc. in order to have the time and resources to do or have what we then want.

It's easy to see how the Capricorn Moon can feel like a stern parent when we just want to go to the beach! But hey, if you worked hard, you deserve to lie around or cook outside on the grill and enjoy the warmth of the longer days. So, just ask yourself these questions: "Am I doing all I can to take care of myself?" "Have I completed all the work I started, or am I at least making progress in that direction?" and one more... "Am I moving toward my goals?" If the answer to two out of three is 'yes', then you can safely take some time off to enjoy yourself, but... if you can't answer 'yes' to the first one, what do you need to do to take care of yourself? For some it'll be about job security, for others, it'll be about opening up and sharing their feelings, even though it may mean being vulnerable. In any event, try to be sensitive to your own and others' needs for the next two weeks, as the lunar cycle wanes and we follow through on the goals we set for ourselves at the July 1st  New Moon.

Looking ahead at the rest of this week, we are in one of those long void Moon phases today, Sunday, when it is best to go with the flow and not push our personal agendas quite so hard! The work week begins tomorrow with an intuitive Pisces Moon, active on both Monday and Tuesday, good for tuning in to underlying currents and paying attention to our compassionate sides. Another void-of-course moon phase occurs Wednesday morning when it is best to follow through on things, not initiating anything important until after the Moon enters Aries at 12:25 p.m. While an Aries Moon usually signals a beginning time, just know that Wednesday afternoon and Thursday are more about the little actions you can take to get your projects started and not any grandiose gestures! Midday Thursday is a balancing act between self and others, so know what you need to do and listen to what others say they need from you.

The Aries Moon is still active on Friday until 5:34pm, when it begins to travel void-of-course again. Let the momentum of what you have started or completed since Monday, close out your work week on a positive note. Early in the morning on Saturday, the Sun enters fiery Leo, where he feels right at home in his own regal throne on high! Leo is a fixed (stubborn...) sign which wants to shine his light on you, as long as the spotlight remains firmly on the Leo at center stage. If a Leo loves you, they have decided you are worthy of their many talents, so it's best to applaud, smile and nod, but only if you can do so sincerely - otherwise, you will hear their mighty roar as they show you to the door! Having fun in the sun is where the energy is at this time of year - enjoy it to the fullest next weekend as we begin a month under Leo sunbeams.

The Last Quarter Moon in Taurus occurs Saturday, bringing two fixed signs to an impasse (Leo Sun and Taurus Moon). Just decide whether to be agreeable and enjoy whatever you have and whomever you are with, or... that you'll be happier having some quality time with yourself to avoid feeling bullied into something, because whining won't do any good! I'm not saying to give up your principles or settle for less, but you can pick and choose your battles and who or what to spend your energy, money or time on.

In the meantime, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.
