The Gemini Full Moon of December 2021

The Sun in the last few degrees of Sagittarius on December 18th lends it’s light to the Moon opposing from 27° Gemini 29’ at 11:36pm. This Full Moon is the first one after the Eclipses and the last of 2021. Being under the rulership of Mercury, ruler of the Mutable Air sign Gemini, as well as ruler of the Virgo Ascendant in the Full Moon chart, there is a lot of emphasis on connecting with others, making this a good time for vital communication. As Mercury only interacts directly with revolutionary Uranus, thinking outside the box and trying a new approach may be the thing that captures the attention of another in any relationship disparity.

Wherever you have Gemini in your Birth chart is where you’ll experience the fullness of this Moon cycle. If it’s your Rising sign, your ability to interact with others is highlighted in the words you say, the thoughts you share or the behaviors you exhibit. The Full Moon in any of the Angular Houses, (1, 4, 7, 10) urges you to initiate conversation or interactions, while in Succedent Houses, (2, 5, 8, 11) you’ll find support with who or what gives you a sense of security and/or stability. In the Cadent Houses, (3, 6. 9, 12) the Full Moon experiences a need for adaptability.

Jupiter lends it’s generosity of spirit to both Lights, the Sun and Moon, adding insight to opportunity. If you’ve been experiencing a greater awareness of the need for healing, the time is now for going the extra distance and extending the virtual olive branch. You may have to take time out to meditate on the best path to follow at this time, as Neptune in Pisces increases the feelings but doesn’t show us a clear way forward at this juncture.

We only have 3 more days with the Sun still in Sagittarius, before the Winter Solstice and it’s move into Capricorn. There’s a pretty big shift in energies from Mutable Fire to Cardinal Earth, so before the solar king leaves this buoyant sign of optimism, truth and faith, take some time to write down your goals and where you need to be flexible in your planning. Then when the Sun enters Capricorn, you’ll be ready to act on practical matters having to do with your family, career or business matters.

In the meantime, look at the bigger picture, let your Light shine and spread Love and good cheer where needed! Remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Taurus Full Moon Lunar Eclipse

At 3:57am on November 19th, the Full Moon, Partial Lunar Eclipse takes place at 27° 14’ of Taurus, the sign of Venus’ exaltation! This eclipse will be visible throughout the United States, Northern Europe, Eastern Asia, most of Australia and the Pacific Ocean. The Sun is of course in the opposite sign, Scorpio, and in the same degree as the Moon. This Earth and Water polarity in Fixed signs is a very important planetary occurrence, not only reflecting what is happening around the globe at this time as it relates to resources, but in what it reflects back to each one of us individually and what that says about our values and our spiritual growth.

The eclipse will last for 6 hours from start to finish. This only happens when the Moon is close to apogee, the furthest point from the Earth, therefore taking longer to pass through the earth’s shadow. These long-occurring eclipses don’t happen that often, the last one being on February 18, 1440, nearly 600 years ago, and the next one doesn’t happen until February 8, 2669. Taurus Full Moon being eclipsed by the Earth's shadow speaks to the importance of the times we are facing on our home planet.

What might we expect at this Full Moon Lunar Eclipse? An awareness and consciousness of the need to creatively partner with the right resources and people for our spiritual and emotional growth. This includes overcoming conflicts that have held us back in the past… ie: letting go of destructive habits, relationships or situations that no longer serve us. For some this will mean stopping self-sabotaging behaviors and recognizing what others have to offer us. For others it may mean listening to our inner guidance about the next step to take to secure our financial well-being. In any case, it is about right-livelihood, trust and looking at the bigger picture. This involves leaving the past behind and moving forward with reliable support.

The Sabian Symbol for 28 degrees of Taurus is a “Woman past her ‘change of life’ experiences a new Love.” This symbol represents the ability to rise above both physical and social limitations. When this degree comes into our consciousness, it indicates that we should open our minds to the possibility of new beginnings. It also implies a more mature response to this experience. So how does this relate to the Scorpio Full Moon? Well, Scorpio is the sign of decay, death and rebirth and in that vein it represents transformation.

Eclipses bring the ending of things and the possibility of new doors opening. Eclipses also come in pairs, two weeks apart. The Solar Eclipse New Moon will be on December 4th at 2:43am EST. This eclipse energy at 12° 22’ of Sagittarius brings the fiery enthusiasm of forward thinking and expansion at the New Moon to combine with the deep passion of the Scorpio Eclipse to jumpstart our projects and move us towards our goals. Significance strides can be driven by this eclipse cycle over the next six months. Remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Scorpio New Moon Nov. 4th 2021

Scorpio New Moon

The New Moon culminates when it joins the Sun at 12° 40’ of Scorpio on November 4th. This Fixed Water sign shores up well when in touch with both feelings and intentions as happens at the New Moon. Given that this lunation is in the 7th House of relationships, and that its’ ruler Mars is in the drivers seat in Scorpio as well, it is important to direct your energy into a productive approach to any new projects or partnerships. In order to move forward, it is necessary to release any past hinderances to growth.

The closest and most significant aspect this Moon makes is an opposition to rebellious Uranus. A combination of impulsive behavior, and intense feelings creates conflict between radical thinking and shifting emotions. Combine that with squares from both sides to Saturn in Aquarius and we have a T-Square that can act like either a restraint providing self-discipline, or a catalyst for compromise. Uranus represents a change of mind to emerging awareness of deep-seated resentment or anger that needs to be released in order for a change of mind. Saturn provides stability for a new approach to productive partnerships.

Venus as ruler of the Taurus ascendant for this New Moon chart makes a very supportive aspect to communicative Mercury for harmonious associations and compromise, much needed attributes at this time. Going forward, Venus enters Earthy Capricorn on the 6th where she will spend 4 months, retrograding and moving forward to make responsible financial commitments and form serious relationships. Pay attention to where your money goes and how you can conserve resources for the near future.

The supporting role provided by Neptune in Pisces to the Scorpio New Moon increases compassion and sensitivity, enhancing intuition and creativity. Listening to our inner muse about what our next steps ought to be, brings awareness of the subconscious spiritual thread winding through these water signs. Neptune reflects a going-with-the-flow approach to what is going on around us and learning to trust our intuitive side to recognize important signposts when they appear. Another insight of the Neptunian archetype is the realization that we are all connected on this blue-green marble floating in space and it’s time to use our creative imaginations to find workable solutions to the issues we face involving the rising seas, worsening storms, heightened temperatures and polluted water and air.

Who can you partner with to make a difference? How can you use all your resources more responsibly and productively? The time is now to figure it out and begin!

Aries Full Moon

The Aries Full Moon opposing the Sun in Libra reflects the balance of our awareness of others and our need for inner development. Our subconscious recognizes that it isn't separate from the world because it sees its' reflection in our relationships. This Cardinal polarity speaks to the ultimate yin and yang of self/Aries and other/Libra.

Aries is all about self-determination, drive and assertion. Its' ruler, Mars goes after what he desires, but Mars is also in Libra beside the Sun and has to moderate his thoughts and actions, while trying to play fair, or at least take others into consideration. Libra is Venus' territory and she is currently traveling through Sagittarius, where she would enjoy an adventurous partner, as long as it is one who is honest and understands fair play.

This Full Moon polarity is reminding us to put our efforts into finding balance and equity. So, the question for us individually is... "how can I make a difference in my surroundings and with my loved ones?" It is seeking after harmony and fairness, that allows both sides to feel they have been heard and have something to gain.
Striving to do the right thing and in the best interest of all involved is the opportunity and challenge of this Full Moon.

The Sun, Moon and Mars are all squaring Pluto, the planetary archetype of decay, death and rebirth. Intense emotions, impulsiveness and a predilection for confrontation with powerful forces will unfortunately highlight this Full Moon. Do your best to avoid arguments, stay out of power struggles and avoid dangerous situations for the next couple of days. Channel your pent up frustrations into creating something beautiful or finishing up that project that is begging to be completed.

And remember everything can't be finished in one day, and it is helpful to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Libra New Moon

The Libra New Moon on Oct. 6th brings an emphasis to relationships and balance. The Moon reflects our subconscious awareness of what we need in order to find the most inner peace, while the current solar energy is focused on moderating our interactions with each other and the environment surrounding us. This is how the marriage of the inner and outer work together at the Libra New Moon.

However, there are several planetary aspects to this alignment of the Sun and Moon that will alternately support and challenge the harmony needed during this soli/lunar dance at the halfway point through the Zodiac. The most notable is Mars conjunct the Sun and Moon at exactly 13 degrees of Libra. On the one hand, this can be a needed push to work hard and resolve something, and Mars can also bring his impulsive take-charge energy in to add emotional angst without thinking.

Communicative Mercury, retrograde in Libra, is still within reach of all three and would like some thought-provoking discussion about how to view what's going on. The key here is listening as well as talking. With the Martian assertion to get one's point across it's wise to consider hearing the other point of view. It's a balancing act after all... all things in moderation.

A so-called minor aspect between Libra Moon and maverick Uranus, the two most changeable dynamics in the planetary pantheon of archetypes, has us off-balance due to situations out of our control. Excitability is high and adjustments have to be made. We have to cope with change that is created by unusual events and it may take a unique approach to find some stabilization. Stepping out of our comfort zones and finding a compromise is necessary to achieve harmony. As above, so below... as within so without~

Pisces Full Moon

On This Harvest Moon~

Welcome to the final Full Moon of the summer, otherwise known as the Harvest Moon, which is exact tonight at 7:54pm EST. There are so many rewards to reap from our island gardens, as well as beach plums and wild grapes to harvest and fish to be reeled ashore here on this little spit of sand, which I am blessed to call my home, 30 miles out to sea. Nostalgia is strong under a Pisces Moon as I remember foraging trips with my parents, seeking out the islands’ bounty, berry-picking, crabbing for blue claws and fishing the local ponds as well as casting off the beach. There is so much to be grateful for as I stir the beach plum jelly and inhale its’ delicious aroma, I almost don’t regret summer coming to a close. There is this delightful harvest moon after all, and Neil Young…

Pisces Moon sits alongside Neptune, king of the ocean, asking us to be aware of the flow of the ocean and our emotions, as it opposes the Sun in Virgo. Neptune enhances the possibilities of loosening our boundaries when it comes to careful consideration of what we’re ingesting, thereby increasing opportunities for allergic reactions to what we’re eating, drinking. or processing through our thoughts. I think the expression, “loose lips sink ships” may have come from such a lapse in self-indulgence or filtering. On the other hand, we are instilled with compassion and caring for others, with an underlying knowledge that we are all connected. This Virgo/Pisces polarity reminds asks us where we can be of service and how we can heal ourselves and others.

Just as the Moon joins Neptune, so too does Mars align with the Sun. And yet, Mars has jumped into Libra a few days ahead of the Sun, forging his own agenda to right the scales of balance. While Mars has no problem asserting himself, he does need to be aware of others while moving through Libra. The Sun in Virgo, until Wednesday afternoon, will ask him to observe the boundaries while putting his energy to good use. Then at the Equinox on the 22nd, the Sun steps into Libra to maintain balance and try to achieve some harmony. With so much polarization and conflict in the world, this Full Moon is a good reminder of letting go of comparisons that work to separate and divide us and instead to identify with the feelings of others, feelings we can all relate to.

Remember while navigating the sometimes tricky shoreline of reality and security to keep your heart open, your head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

Virgo New Moon

Would you be surprised if I told you that tonight's Virgo Moon is unusual? There is an exact trine between the Sun and Moon conjunction at 14 degrees of Virgo and rebellious Uranus at 14 degrees of Taurus. Both are Earth signs but with different modes of operating. Virgo takes in information and organizes their space or environment into some workable schedule or format, while Taurus hangs onto and stores resources, only releasing their hold on things when it is absolutely imperative to do so.

The New Moon in Virgo culminates at 8:51pm EDT, bringing the energies of inner focus and outer discernment together, setting the pace for the lunar month ahead. Virgo asks us to make healthy or useful choices that affect our day-to-day living. What we decide is based on many factors that mostly have to do with our individual skill sets and abilities. Decide we must, in order to stop roiling around in a soup of indecision! (roiling is a word, look it up if you don't know the meaning; it will clarify my use of it.)

Now, the interaction of Uranus in Taurus has to do with sudden flashes of insight into our own worth, values or use of resources. That insight can come from situations, events or people that show up seemingly out of the blue, like a bolt of lightning splitting open the earth or our awareness.  Harmony through conflict is the purpose of this trine to the New Moon. How will we decide to use the resources within ourselves to be of some service on the planet? What new awareness has awoken our need to do something to heal ourselves and Mother Earth?

Try to go with the flow and make small changes in your day that are more manageable than trying to do everything at once. Assertive Mars in Virgo interacts with expansive Jupiter in Aquarius throwing a bit of a monkey wrench into our day and asking us to adjust to the many different directions we're being pulled into.  Be willing to try new approaches to unusual circumstances or people, which could also bring delightful surprises while we try to incorporate them into our life.

Personal or financial desires can be triggered by a Venus in Libra square to Pluto in Capricorn. What do you really want... is your shadow side asking to be included in your restructuring process? It would be wise to use moderation in all pursuits of gratification at this time. Another consideration that starts today and carries us forward, is the Neptune opposition in Pisces to the Virgo New Moon. Remember that it is okay to set some limits for yourself and take a time out away from others. You can still be compassionate and find a way to be in harmony with what is.

While juggling these many considerations in your decision making, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

2nd Aquarius Full Moon of August

Once in a Blue Moon... that's what we call it when there's a second Full Moon in the same zodiac sign.  The Full Moon culminates at 8:02am on Sunday, August 22nd and is an even more auspicious Moon because it sits at 29° Aquarius, the anaretic degree. What does this mean astrologically? It's the final degree of the sign and implies an urgent need for understanding what it took to set the stage for current upheavals and the acknowledgement of what needs to be released at this time before entering the next lunar phase.

The ruler of Aquarius is the revolutionary planet Uranus, which turns retrograde tonight, the 19th, and is drawing a lot of attention through sudden changes and not-so-surprising news about events and potential outcomes springing up all over the globe. Uranus is the archetype of the rebel, the maverick who acts out and says or does the thing no-one else dares to. He also brings the sudden awareness and insights we have to have in order to turn things around when situations are out of control.

Three current examples are extreme weather events due to global warming, yet another devastating earthquake in Haiti and the departure of US troops from Afghanistan with the ensuing return of the Taliban. I have no answers for possible solutions to these dreadful realities. With Uranus turning retrograde today,  I wonder where we stand and will things ever calm down?! Will we be able to do the Aquarian thing and pull together collectively to make a difference or will we continue to plod along in the same direction we always have?

A Full Moon is inherent on the opposition of the Sun which lies at the last degree of Leo on Sunday morning. Leo is Fixed Fire, symbolizing passion and will, while Aquarius is Fixed Air and the hard, cold clarity of logic and reasoning. Seeing both sides clearly calls for raising our conscious awareness to a higher perspective and moving away from personality-driven incentives.

There are always compelling arguments in any debate over what to do next when faced with challenges. There is always the need for reform in any government or global initiative... and there is always the need for individuals to do the next right thing and make a difference where they are.

Part of the astrologer's job is to point out these pivotal signposts and offer a timeline. Uranus has been in the Earth sign Taurus since 2008, he will remain there until 2026. Like the Tower card in the Tarot, it is affecting our planet, the Earth, as a bolt of lightning striking out of the blue and turning the structure of our world upside down.  As Uranus enters his yearly retrograde phase tonight into January 2022, we can find ourselves moving in unexpected directions. Whenever the dust settles, we pick up the pieces and start anew in our quest for a conscious totality of being. That's what we do.

In the meantime, moment by moment, day by day, look to the stars and keep your feet firmly on the ground.

Leo New Moon

Welcome to the epitome of summer under the Leo Sun! The Moon left its' watery home of Cancer overnight entering Leo this morning where the Sun rules supreme. This is the lead-up to the New Moon in Leo taking place tomorrow morning - Sunday, August 8th at 9:50am EST. In some spiritual circles, this date, 8/8, is referred to as "The Lions Gate". The fixed blue Star Sirius, or the "dog star" as it's known, aligns on the 8th with Orion's Belt and the Pyramid at Giza. This starry collaboration bodes well for those looking to empower and create their own reality!

The Sun is at its strongest in Leo, adding strength to the New Moon, intensifying your abilities  and your passions. Use this fire to inspire you right through to achieving success. The 8 vibration is about finding balance in those times of change, bringing a big shift into your life. What is the feeling you want to create... financial security... emotional well-being... career recognition... fame... ? Whatever it is, it's important to recognize anything that may be holding you back and be willing to let it go. As I was writing the rough draft of this post yesterday, I heard an announcer on the radio say "stay away from the weirdness, stay close to the goodness", that's good advice for achievement.

Other considerations at this New Moon phase are a waning opposition from restrictive Saturn, reminding you not to adhere to the rules of past authority, but to become your own authority figure. That can show up as old tapes from father figures, teachers, bosses, etc. Take what you need and leave the rest. Also significant is a square to the Sun and Moon from freedom-loving Uranus that urges you to be impulsive and do things your way. I would caution you not to have to stand out from the crowd here in order to use your ingenuity. Help others to gain their independence and you gain your own!

This is a powerful New Moon, bringing strength, time for fun, a bit of drama, courage, creativity and self-expression on stage. Recognize what you need most and carry it out into the world to create your own reality. Writing a wish list of the 5 steps that Leo Moon offers, will help focus your intention and energy, thereby ensuring success. And while you're at it, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

Aquarius Full Moon

The Moon in Aquarius opposes the Sun in Leo at 10:37pm EST tonight. This polarity of Fixed Air and Fixed Fire seeks balance between one’s thoughts and one’s expression - the yin and the yang of creativity and sharing your talents and gifts for the benefit of the collective. The Sun in Leo is strong in the chart of this lunation. Being placed as it is in it’s own home territory of the 5th house, self-expression abounds. While the Moon isn’t as strong in airy, rebellious Aquarius, it is placed in the 11th house of the chart where groups and humanitarian causes are supported. The battle of this Full Moon is ever with the ego and what one can do for the good of the whole.

Intensity is strongly felt during this Moon phase, which finds Luna aligned with Pluto in Capricorn, even though she has pulled away from the drama having entered Aquarius, and is asking how to pick up the pieces that need to be reclaimed or re-purposed. There are other issues with Pluto’s power dynamic happening now and they’re being pointed out by the opposing Sun in Leo and Mercury in Cancer. Obsessive tendencies are quite possible now with people hanging onto their emotions and/or their positions of power. Again, Full Moons are opportunities to see what we’re up against and strive for harmony in our lives.

Other considerations at this time are how to use our energy (Mars in Leo) without giving up the idea of peace and quiet (Jupiter in Pisces). Work, then rest… enter the fray, then retreat and reflect. If we don’t find a way to make room for both in our lives, we can burn out or miss what out inner muse is trying to say to us. Venus is in detail-oriented Virgo helping us to maintain healthy boundaries. Avoid being too critical of yourself, or others - give them their space too! Everyone is going through something and we each have our own path to follow. Allowing, listening and sharing are wonderful tools in tough times. We can’t fix someone else, but letting them know we’re there can be enough.

While navigating this Full Moon phase, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Cancer New Moon

We started  today, Thursday, under a void-of-course Gemini Moon, so if things felt a bit dis-jointed first thing this morning, the Moon's lack of direction could explain it.  The Moon became active again when it entered its home territory of Cancer at 9:51 a.m. The focus shifts from thoughts and planning to feelings and caring when Luna is in her rulership. People tend toward moodiness under this watery Moon, especially in the unknown dark-of-the-moon, Balsamic phase that happens before a New Moon. When the Sun and Moon are joined together at the New Moon in Cancer, Friday at 9:17pm it starts a 4 week lunar cycle of tuning into emotions, the search for a suitable nest and all issues of nurturing.

The chart for the New Moon shows the Sun and Moon in the 6th House of work, scheduling, and taking care of our health and well-being. People that work in Human Services, especially around the care, feeding, and housing of families and children will find more of a focus in these areas. Personal responsibilities to ourselves and those entrusted into our care are strongly felt with responsible Saturn in Aquarius in the 1st House.  Even if this isn't a current issue in your life you can ask yourself, what can I do to help those struggling in my community?

With aspects from the Lights, that is the Moon and Sun, to Neptune and Pluto, the bigger picture needs to be addressed. Be wary of idealizing others and avoid dramas that aren't yours or that you can do nothing about. Instead, make a realistic assessment of your own limits and resources, resolving to make whatever positive contribution for change that you can. Whatever you're feeling strongly motivated to be a part of, you can find a project to direct your creativity, energy or insight towards.

There's a sense of hope and optimism in the air, quite literally, as Mercury in Gemini interacts favorably with Jupiter in Pisces. Extend your caring out into the world by caring for yourself first, then using your faith and your words to lift up others. Kind words, a smile and a random act of kindness can go a long way and everyone benefits! If you're feeling compelled to reach out to someone but you let insecurity hold you back, you'll never know what a difference you might have made in their life.

Enjoy nesting, cook your favorite comfort food, nurture yourself, practice self-care and reconnect with your inner knowingness at the New Moon.  Write a New Moon Wish List of the things you need to do for yourself. Then, when you're full-up, let your cup of kindness overflow to others. Remember to keep you head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

Fireworks, Independence and Self-Discipline

Welcome to the first week in July and the celebration of America's independence! This is a time to enjoy our hard-fought freedoms and maintain our sense of responsibility to one another, whether in our families, our communities, or as a nation. At the start of July, we have a couple of interesting astrological aspects that when put into words can help define the energies happening around us. Some of this is seen as potential for change or enjoyment and some can have the potential to be downright scary, bringing unwanted upheaval.  And yes, it's tricky!                                         +

With assertive Mars in Leo opposing restricting Saturn in Aquarius yesterday, the stage was set for conflict between acting out and self-discipline. I'm sure you've heard of people being overly assertive and falling into aggressive behaviors lately, then being called to task or having to pay a difficult toll. That is the energy pattern that has been building up for a few days prior, came to a head yesterday and continues today. Mars is like the gas pedal and Saturn the brake. While at odds with each other, leaping forward in haste can wreak havoc and applying self restraint can prevent an accident.

On the other hand, Mars in Leo is great for summer sports and outdoor activity! I'm also thinking of all the athletes who have been working their hardest at the just-completed Olympic Trials to become representatives of the US at the Olympics in Tokyo later this month. They employ the self-discipline of training for many years to get to this point, then put their heart and soul into their efforts to become an Olympian! There's an example of Mars and Saturn working together. How can you synthesize these two energies to work on your behalf?!

In many places around the US, there won't be fireworks for the 4th of July due to planning amidst the covid pandemic. That doesn't preclude the Mars in Leo/Uranus in Taurus aspect taking place on the 3rd at 9:39pm EST, bringing a symbolic fireworks of it's own! On the optimistic level, this can be finally having fun or a sudden expression of love... maybe even being hit by Cupid's arrow!

Also, know that this possibly explosive combination of the aggressive Mars with surprise-laden Uranus showing up out-of-the blue will carry over onto the 4th. Let's hope it's just an awe-inspiring about-face turn of events that brings a breakthrough. Just to be on the safe side, it would be best to avoid pushing anyone's buttons, being in a potentially sketchy place or jumping into a situation which presents itself suddenly over the weekend.

In the meantime, enjoy some fun with friends and loved ones, doing something different to celebrate your freedoms. If that includes keeping your head in the stars watching fireworks, don't forget to keep your feet on the ground and watch where you're going. Enjoy~

Full "Strawberry" Super Moon

Welcome to the first Full Moon of the Summer in Capricorn, highlighting the need for a feeling response, Sun in Cancer, to make a necessary change for the greater good! This "Strawberry" Moon is the harbinger of Summer, coming as it does on the heels of the Summer Solstice 4 days ago. Go to your local farm and pick some strawberries, then share your favorite jam or pie with loved ones! Mercury in Gemini is now in Direct motion, but the shadow phase lasts until July 9th, so bite your tongue until then, if you don't have anything kind to say.

The Sabian Symbol for 4 degrees of Capricorn is "a group of people outfitting a large canoe at the start of a journey by water" . This implies a feeling response by a group of people with a common will and consensus to make a necessary change in response to a specific situation. It is the group activity that is important. With the Sun tuned into to emotional undercurrents in polarity to the Moon in this pragmatic Earth sign Capricorn, it is a great time to ask yourself where you can make a difference.

With the Moon sextile Jupiter, there's a feeling of optimism in the air. The Sun trine to expansive Jupiter brings a sense of well-being and generosity to the fore. If you're a boss, what can you give to let your employees know they are appreciated, and if you are the head of the household, how can you share your caring with your loved ones? On the other hand, if there's something you need, what  practical steps can you take now to engage with those in a position to make a difference?

The monthly opposition of the Sun and Moon brings into play ego vs. emotion and empathy vs. assertion. This Full Moon chart plays out on the stage of the people opposed to organization, whether that highlights political or socio-economic situations. Cancer represents the people, emotions and public opinion, while Capricorn is authority and current structures. There is a cautionary note here involving aggressive Mars who is very active at this Full Moon. Self-restraint and self-discipline are needed here if you want to move toward your goals. Missteps and accidents are possible due to an alignment of Mars to revolutionary Uranus. Watch out for carelessness and recklessness if you want to avoid trouble.

All the angles for this Full Moon chart set in Washington DC are at 00°s of the Cardinal signs, with the Ascendant being 00° Libra. That means Venus is the planetary ruler of this moment in time that affects us where we live, how we want to be seen in the world, and who we chose to associate with. Lovely Venus in late degrees of Cancer is in an opposition to powerful Pluto at 26° Capricorn, which can bring drama into relationships or escalate into a battle between love and desire... if allowed. What is really going on is a chance to let go of the old ways of reacting and to generate a new response. Giving up the struggle could allow a creative path to healing, perhaps initiating a whole new form of relating where one doesn't have or take total power over the other.

Enjoy the sunshine, spread love, look to the stars and stay grounded~

Solar Eclipse New Moon

Tomorrow's Solar Eclipse New Moon in Gemini is a potent reminder of the power of our thoughts and words. When the Moon joins the Sun at 19 degrees, 47 minutes of Gemini, both will be closely aligned with retrograde Mercury in its own sign. This makes for a whole stew of thoughts and ideas, information and plans to be tossed around. Choices abound around what to do and who to associate with. Gemini is a very sociable, somewhat ambiguous Air sign, and after more than a year of practically zero face-to face connections, catching up and interacting are high priorities for most families and friends. Because Mercury is retrograde until June 22nd, there is added emphasis on research and restraint before leaping forward with big plans or projects.

In the New Moon chart, we find the Lights and Mercury in Gemini residing in the 12th House, squaring off with its' ruler, Neptune in Pisces up in the 10th House. The Twelfth House focus is on the unseen, or subconscious motivations. This area of life relates to what's hidden, what holds us back or where our ability to connect with spirit lies. In our Natal charts, it may have to do with secrets, restraints - like hospital stays, or where we seek refuge from the world. At any rate, sometimes we need to dig deeper here to uncover hidden talents or abilities. Imagination, fantasy, muddled thoughts and confusing information is apt to be the name of the game during this Solar Eclipse.

Another consideration at this Solar Eclipse New Moon, is the harmonious relationship of the Sun and Moon to Saturn in the Fixed air sign of Aquarius.  The Moon's concern here is feeling comfortable with responsibility to the larger group, while the Sun brings self-confidence in its organizational abilities. Saturn lends consistency to building a solid foundation for the future. I am cautiously optimistic that positive strides are being made to renew open lines of communication in our government. At the same time, I have serious doubts about that being the intention of the majority of those politicians who refuse to be responsible to the people of this country and not to their bank accounts.

I set this this chart for Washington, DC and as lovely as the aspect between The Sun, Moon and Saturn could be, we are dealing with a divided country of separate interests which may or may not create an even larger socio-economic split than what we are currently experiencing. It may take Venus' attracting power of love and harmony in Cancer, working compatibly with Uranus in Taurus, the planet of sudden reversals, at this Solar Eclipse to bring an opportunity for reconnection based on our democratic principles of freedom for all, to turn the tide. Venus in Cancer is close to the United States Sun which bodes well for our self-worth as a nation, if it's not too late and we've already sold our collective soul to the devil of greed, or not...

In the meantime, focus on what you can do in the here and now to stay on track for achieving your personal goals, be patient and realistic, and maintain your sense of self, while keeping your head in the stars and your feet on the ground. I pray for Light and Love to restore Harmony on the Earth.

Mercury Retrograde

The planet of communication and interaction, Mercury, has been in its rulership of Gemini since May 3rd and due to a retrograde period starting tonight, at 24 degrees and 41 minutes of Gemini, Mercury remains in this Mutable Air sign through July 10th, entering Cancer on the 11th of July. On June 22nd, Mercury will turn back to Direct motion at 16 degrees and 10 minutes, finally moving out of its shadow phase on July 7th, meaning it will leave the retrograde area that it covered 3 times between 16 and 24 degrees of Gemini.

So, what does this mean for you? Mercury is concerned with planning, researching and organizing, as well as agreements and negotiations. This is the perfect time to get more information and become clearer on the important details of your endeavors. Don't be in a rush to finalize plans, unless you've already done all your homework and time is of the essence. Otherwise take your time considering your options and sharing your ideas with those closest to you in the planning phase. If you are traveling during this time, double check all the details before you go.

After the past year it feels like we're ready to do quite a bit of socializing. In Massachusetts, things are opening up quickly with events and venues beginning to welcome people back. There's an air of excitement about all the possibilities and Mercury retrograde can have us confused about our options. This is not the time to jump into a new commitment without careful research. Think of a retrograde time as an opportunity to reconnect with yourself and your plans. Gemini has a tendency to jump from one thought to another, one plan or the other and it can become quite tiring.

I hope that you are enjoying the gradual return to sociability and seeing smiles again. Gemini rules the hands, arms, shoulders and lungs, so write or read more, hug longer and breathe deeper while keeping your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius

Eclipse season begins tomorrow morning at 7:14am EST with the culmination of the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 5 degrees of Sagittarius. The next Eclipse will be at the Solar New Moon on June 10th. This Full Moon is also known as the Flower Moon and it happens to be the closest 'Supermoon' to the Earth this year. Eclipses mark a time of potent possibility, when  the energy is used wisely. Generally, Lunar Eclipses are known to signify the surfacing of an emotional awareness of what we can release, like old habits or negative behaviors, while Solar Eclipses can jumpstart new beginnings that appear from the seeds of a New Moon.

A Full Moon means that the Sun and Moon are in opposition, drawing attention to any imbalances between the ego(Sun) and the emotions (Moon). Another way to look at this is as a tug-of-war between assertion and empathy. With the Sun in Gemini, there is a big push to connect, socialize, talk  and plan. The Sagittarius Moon wants to set some long-range goals and look further afield than just right now.

Perhaps you feel thwarted in your efforts to make big plans because of all the details that have to be taken care of first. Maybe you are feeling more philosophical about life  and don't have the time for idle gossip or chit-chat. Or, maybe you're finally ready to broaden your perspective and move on to bigger and better goals! In any case, it would behoove you to stay centered on the present and take care of necessary details even while expanding your horizons.

The Eclipse energy of this Sagittarian Moon is huge and with Jupiter as the ruler of this Mutable Fire sign, a small blaze can ignite quickly, especially since both the Sun in Gemini and the Moon in Sagittarius square off with Jupiter. It's great if you're ready for it, kind of like a controlled burn of underbrush to make room for new growth. But things can get out of control fast with giant Jupiter's propensity for over-optimism or aggrandizement.

This is where we consider Saturn's role as disciplinarian, along with the fact that he's retrograde, and apply a healthy dose of realism and limitations. Research what it will take using the resources available to you to work toward your desired goal. One step at a time is a good rule of thumb before leaping into your bright and beautiful future. Mercury's interaction with the Sun and Saturn indicate that clear communication and compromise in any collaboration now will earn self-respect and help build a solid foundation for the future.

Expect a few do-overs or setbacks while Mercury is retrograde from May 29th through June 21st. Think as big as you want and work within present guidelines and necessary limits and you will eventually get where you're going. In the meantime, you know the drill... keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground!

Taurus New Moon May 11, 2021

Welcome to the Taurus New Moon this afternoon at 2:59pm EST. The Moon is exalted in this gentle Fixed Earth sign, bringing a pervading sense of calm to the start of this Lunar cycle. Enjoy it while it lasts, because the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse on May 26th kicks off an eclipse cycle that brings a lot more excitement and some heavy confusion into play for the ensuing 2 weeks between the Lunar Eclipse and June 10th's Solar Eclipse!

Something to be aware of today, is that while you may have been thinking... May 11th is a New Moon day, I can begin my project now... the Moon isn't exactly aligned with the Sun until 2:59pm, so please hold off on new starts until later this afternoon. There is an opportunity time a half hour before and after the New Moon, called "cazimi" that is an ideal time to initiate important projects. If you can't take advantage of this time frame, it would be best to wait until tomorrow afternoon when the Gemini Moon harmonizes with Saturn for lasting effects.

Now, back to the Taurus Moon. In general, people are more pleasant, easy-going and supportive of each other with the Moon, ruling the public, in this placid Earth sign. Add to that, the Sun's influence and both lights connecting harmoniously with sensitive Neptune in Pisces and there's a feeling of compassion and caring in the air. It's also a great time for artistic and spiritual pursuits! Pluto aligns positively to assist your leadership efforts in knowing what's important and how to use these energies to make a transformative difference in your world.

Mercury in its home territory of Gemini wants answers... as well as being able to connect with others, socially or for practical reasons. With a harmonious aspect to pragmatic Saturn in this chart, put some effort into making important and practical decisions now, before Mercury retrogrades on May 29th for 3 and 1/2 weeks. Common sense rules the day and sets the pace for this lunar cycle!

Careful planning now, especially if you have to travel or negotiate a new deal during the Eclipse period (see above) or while Mercury is Retrograde, will help keep things running smoothly. Don't fret if you're not ready to negotiate, buy that new computer, phone or car prior to Mercury's about-face on the 29th. The best time to gather information or do reviews is during a Mercury retrograde cycle! Rushing to get under the wire when you're still not sure isn't a wise move.

While enjoying the simpler pleasures of nature, a massage, a new outfit or opening a savings account over the next couple of weeks, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground!

Scorpio Full Moon

Tonight's Full Moon culminates at 11:31pm EDT in the 7th degree of Scorpio. This is a supermoon, the second closest to the Earth for the year. It was known as the "Full Pink Moon", which gets its name from the pink early springtime blooms of the Phlox subulata plant, also called "moss pink." It's native to eastern North America. Let's hope we get to see a pretty pink moon and that the Scorpio symbolism doesn't overshadow its beauty.

Besides the Scorpio Moon being opposite the Sun in Taurus, it also opposes edgy Uranus and the Earth Goddess, Venus. Potentiality is what comes to mind here. There's the unknown energy of Uranus that may in fact bring sudden events involving the Earth's crust and getting the attention of people everywhere. Think volcanic activity and/or earthquakes. Venus stands her ground in Mother Nature's sign hoping for a return to balance, with an equilibrium that affects the many, not the few, as in how we treat her when trying to fill our needs, or just our pockets. How much oil do we really need... can't we use the power of the ever present Sun and the wind as energy sources?

On a personal level, the deeply emotional Scorpio Moon's pull will affect hidden wounds or agendas that may suddenly arise to be dealt with. While such an awareness isn't always convenient, it is best to acknowledge the feelings and determine a course of action that will start the healing process. Rather than let old hurts fester to create resentment, it is timely to purge the infection and begin anew! There is an assist from Mars in Cancer for dealing with emotions, especially within family units. Allow compromise and collaboration to inform your choice of action and rid yourself of unnecessary pain while easing the suffering of all affected parties.

Due to a challenging aspect from Saturn (necessity), you may be lacking in the self-esteem department, feeling that your emotional needs aren't as important as those of others. Please let go of those old tapes of insecurity and work to build your own self confidence. The Centaur Chiron brings an opportunity in relationship to Saturn that starts the process of facing our fears so that we may reclaim our sovereignty as individuals and feel strong enough to help others.

One more thing this Full Moon highlights, albeit in a slightly peripheral way, is an aspect to Neptune that has us squirming or nudgy... yes, that's a word... and the only way to know what you're sensing there is to get quiet and listen to your higher self. Neptune wants you to uncover the creativity beneath the surface appearance and to express yourself with fluidity. Close your eyes and imagine what you could be doing that speaks to you artistically, musically or spiritually. Now open your eyes and see new possibilities in the world around you. Energy follows thought into manifestation. Give attention to those things you want to create, not the ones you need to let go of.

And while you're wondering how you will deal with whatever is surfacing for you personally, remember to stay centered in the present, feel the warmth, or the coolness, of the earth beneath you feet and gaze into the heavens for inspiration.

Aries New Moon, April 11, 2021

Tonight's New Moon is exact at 10:31pm EST at 22 degrees, 25 minutes of Aries. This being the first sign of the Zodiac and the first time the Sun and Moon join here for the start of the astrological new year, gives us a green light for new beginnings. That project, job or relationship you dreamt about starting, can now be approached with intention. Aries asserts itself and can sometimes butt it's head in the door, so be sure of what you want, avoiding rash actions while moving forward.

The world is exhaling and making room for a big breath of fresh air. We want to go, be and do the things we couldn't for so long. Here is an opportunity as Mars, the overseer of Aries, moves into a supportive position to the Sun and Moon, bringing us a brief window of opportunity to be brave and do the thing we were afraid to do not so long ago. This is the time to be daring and motivate yourself to take that first step toward a bright beginning.

So, whether it's Chiron in Aries helping give you a dose of fortitude or Venus in Aries saying be true to yourself, the clear headline is to take a chance because if you don't, you won't know just how rosy your future could be! Chiron in Aries is about the process of healing your insecurities, developing self-confidence and moving forward with self assurance. Venus in this sign wants you to let others know what you value about yourself and what you're willing to invest in for yourself.

The challenge in this New Moon chart comes from powerful Pluto over in the corner, still in Capricorn and continuing to dare you to make a wrong move so he can maintain control over you. Watch out for underhanded moves by fearful people who feel they are losing control of the situation, whatever it has appeared as in the last several years. Pluto shakes us to our core, destroys the status quo and forces us to be rejuvenated or reborn in a new and improved version. Just don't let manipulative people push your buttons out of fear. Do the opposite... see the writing on the wall and you decide what is crumbling, not good for you or downright harmful, then take back your power and do something different.

While realizing this could be a brand new world, full of possibilities, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

Libra Full Moon

We celebrate the Full Moon in airy Libra on Sunday, March 28th at 2:48pm EST. Full Moons indicate a polarity between the sign the Sun is in and the Moon sign. The Sun entered Aries, at the Vernal Equinox on March 20th and will be opposed by the Libra Moon, working its' way to an Air/Fire polarity tomorrow. While Full Moons are always about seeking some kind of balance, it is especially so when in Libra, the sign of the Scales. This is the natural axis of self/Aries and other/Libra. Harmony and fairness is what we seek in relationships of all kinds.

The first and most important relationship is that of the personality self to the Higher, or Soul-centered Self. Getting to know oneself is the foundation for positive and fulfilling relationships with others. It doesn't matter if those relations are kith and kin, friendly, business, or romantic. Libra wants to maintain equilibrium between the two sides so that the dance between them is fluid and fair. This Full Moon will highlight any imbalances and give us an opportunity for give and take, in order to restore fairness, or equity.

Looking at the chart for this Full Moon, we see a preponderance of planets (4) in Air signs, and a similar emphasis on the Fire element with the Ascendant, 2 planets, and the South Node all in Fire. Air feeds Fire and that is certainly the case here! Our thoughts, connections and interactions with others are fanning the flames of inspiration, desire and aspiration. Venus sitting alongside the Sun today, brings her warmth and affection to connections with  acquaintances, while Mars directs his energy toward talking and socializing within small groups of friends.

The enjoyment of social gatherings, visits to museums or shared virtual entertainment events can be different ways this is expressed. Other examples of collaboration between these positive, outgoing elements can show up in brainstorming innovative ideas or working together to find exciting connections that bring people together. If what you seek is harmony, focus on how you can bring it to the table so that others feel empowered to contribute as well.

Another big factor at this time is the alignment between Mercury/communication and Neptune/the unseen, traveling together in Pisces. As ruler of this ocean sign, Neptune is quite at home here and will be for several more years to come. However, Mercury isn't so comfortable in the water, where speaking and hearing is muffled. Like being underwater, you can only tune into how you feel and wait to resurface for clearer definition. Connections become more intuitive and agreements or negotiations more fluid. This is great energy for creative, spiritual or humanitarian endeavors, not mundane pursuits! It's a good idea to wait until after Mercury pulls away from Neptune and enters Aries in about a week, before making new starts, especially major decisions or document signing.

In the meantime, I hope you enjoy the company of loved ones and stay balanced between heaven and earth... you know - feet on the ground and head in the stars.

Pisces New Moon 2021

Once upon a time, there was a Prince(ess)... so starts one story under this New Moon in Pisces, early Saturday morning, March 13th. This Moon has the propensity to hold space for your self-care, healing and letting go, so long as you listen to your intuition. Logic and reason don't really have any place here as the Sun and Moon align in this sensitive and compassionate Water sign. Psychic abilities are enhanced now as we let these vibrations just flow around us. What is your inner muse whispering in the silence? There is a caution here not to be delusional. It's one thing to be caring and trust in the universal flow, it's another to write a complete fiction around your current reality... and they all lived happily ever after... or not!

We are at the zodiacal point where it is important to consider what brought us here and how best to navigate toward our long-range goals. Be aware of the emotional hooks that bind us and want to pull us back into an unsustainable dream. Acknowledging our thoughts, feelings and past behaviors and seeing what worked and what didn't, is the stepping stone of letting go under a Pisces New Moon. When you've swept away the cobwebs, decluttered each room in your mind and tossed out the meaningless knick-knacks that are mere souveniers of your past travels, you'll be doing some good work in clearing space for new beginnings next month.

Another facet of this New Moon phase is Saturnian responsibility separating from the need for a complete rebellion against any form of structure or authority. Be your own authority figure, decide what you want to acheive that will give you the most inner peace. Giving you an assist now is action-oriented Mars operating through curious Gemini and resonating beneficially with Saturn in independent and enlightened Aquarius. Making new connections,  new pathways to move forward, is the benefit of this alignment in Air.

Let this be your timeout, a retreat if you will. The Sun moving through Pisces, this last sign of the zodiac, is when we get to reflect and regroup before the Spring Equinox when it enters Aries, the time for new growth. The lunar phase overlapping this period wants us to pay attention to our dreams, our intuition and our feelings as we begin to move forward in a week.

Remember, while drifting through clouds of nostalgia in the starry sky, or imagining your future, to keep your feet firmly on terra firma as you pursue your dreams. And maybe, just maybe... you'll live happily ever after~

Virgo Full Moon

The Full Moon culminates overnight at 3:17am EST in the 8th degree of Virgo, highlighting the need for organization and discernment. Another concern of this polarity of the Virgo Moon with Pisces Sun is the need for healing and wholeness. By allowing intuition to inform you of your current needs, you get to pick your priorities and chose what to work on. Just remember, Virgo relies on honesty and boundaries.

There is an element of just wanting to indulge in daydreams and fantasy while Venus is aligned in Pisces with the Sun. However, the Sun highlights its flow into those hidden places and Virgo Moon will nag at your insecurities, asking you what needs to go, what needs to be worked on, or fixed? Do the inner work of clarification in order to know what needs purifying or cleansing, then the process of healing can begin.

With communciative Mercury sitting in between Saturn and Jupiter in Aquarius, there's a lot to educate ourselves on regarding humanitarian and group concerns. There's an electricity in the air surrounding the sharing of new ideas leading to ingenious solutions that address old stuck patterns.

We are in a time of shifting realities and total awareness of unique opportunities to change things for the better is closer at hand than ever before. Do your research - there's plenty of resources available on the internet, in libraries and educational institutions that can help provide possible answers. Not everything can be fixed all at once and not everyone will agree on the best course of action, but talking, listening and brainstorming is a heck of a lot better than burying one's head in the sand or conjuring up conspiracy theories based on falsehoods.

The need to focus on our responsibilities to the planet we live on is also taking center stage now and throughout the year as restrictive Saturn in Aquarius squares off with revolutionary Uranus in Taurus. These two Fixed signs create tension and something has to give. What is it going to be... science and ingenuity, or the same old ways of dealing with growing climate crises? Fossil fuels are polluting  the air we breathe, the water we drink and the foods we eat. We are running out of time and Mother Earth is reminding us. There are much worse storms, including hurricanes, tornados and typhoons, not to mention rising temperatures and sea levels, and yet we continue to plod along while greed and politics take center stage, distracting us from our need to act to save our planet!

I didn't know what form this Blog would take until I was in the middle of writing it. As astrologers, we say the devil is in the details and that'sVirgo. Pisces can be illusion, fog, film, drugs and alcohol, or the feeling that we are all one, all connected and all living in this dream... or is it a reality? We need to wake up before it's too late.

Remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

The 1st New Moon of 2021 in Capricorn

Happy New Year everyone! Yes, there are, and will be, even more reasons to be both cautious and optimistic in the year ahead. The first New Moon of the calendar year is always in hardworking Capricorn when the Moon joins the Sun and that happens tonight at 12:01a.m. Capricorn is somewhat of a serious sign, ruled by the responsible and restrictive planet Saturn, also known as the Lord of Karma, reminding each of us that we reap what we sow! And this is doubly emphasized as the Sun and Moon are conjoined with Saturn.

What do you want to initiate at this New Moon? Think about your goals and the seeds you need to plant now in order to reap the rewards later. Focus on the most important thing you would like to manifest in the month ahead in order to help you reach your highest potential. Capricorn is symbolized by the sea-goat, a creature that emerges from the depths and brings with it the ability to climb the rocky cliffs to attain the recognition or success it desires. Some of the attributes to utilize are persistence, pragmatism and industriousness.

The Sun and Moon are also conjunct Mercury, the planet of agreements and interactions, putting a more focused attention on what we say and how we say it. Are you being overly cautious and not truly expressing yourself, or are you acting like you'd better listen to what I say, because it's more important?! Self-discipline is perhaps the most desirable trait to call on while trying to build foundations and work with others. No one I've ever heard of built a business, career or reputation all on their own.

That self-discipline will come in handy when dealing with the difficulties presenting themselves over the next week while aggressive Mars connects with rebellious Uranus. Try to harness your energy and drive for moving in a new direction when you see the possibilities, the openings... as they present themselves. Avoid destroying the old without identifying what really will hold you back and needs to be let go. Then take what you need as you move cautiously forward, and leave the rest behind!

As you enter this new lunar phase, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.
