"We are born at a given moment, in a given place, and like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and the season of which we are born. Astrology does not lay claim to anything more." - Carl Gustav Jung

A Merry-go-round... Really?! Virgo New Moon Sabian Symbol Says It All...

The New Moon occurs at 11:04 p.m. tonight at six degrees of the mutable Earth sign of Virgo. The Sabian Symbol for this degree, as classified by Marc Edmond Jones and Elsie Wheeler in 1925, is "A Merry-go-round". Tropical storm "Irene" has swirled a wide path round-and-about New England, having been downgraded from Hurricane status. The cyclic action implied speaks to the ups and downs of emotional life and the repetition of seeing/experiencing the same old thing.  The big question seems to be: where are you going in circles and what have you decided about getting off the merry-go-round?

As Virgo energy is about skill-building and discernment, I hope you have come to some self-knowledge of what isn't working and what you can do to break the cycle. The dizzying affect of a merry-go-round can be intoxicating to a child, but at some point, we all want to feel equilibrium. That's where our experiential momentum can lead us... when we've had enough of the same old stuff and know it's time to make a change, then we can grab for the brass ring! We have watched it time and time again as the wheel turned and have thought about our strategy over and over... time to go for it; whatever "it" is, don't you think you're ready to change the scenery?!

More Virgo themes have to do with diet and nutrition and how we take in and digest information literally and figuretively.  Also, orderliness and cleanliness, as in " a place for everything and everything in it's place". Maybe the winds and/or water has been the catalyst for cleaning things up? Virgo is a sign of mulling things over mentally  and is known for over-thinking things, especially when it comes to problematic issues. Try not to make mountains out of molehills and prioritize instead. "How important is it..." is a good approach for setting up your to-do list for the month ahead. It's a great time to initiate a health regime as well, especially one that includes herbs and vitamins or natural foods with less preservatives. Want to kick a bad habit, apply your focus now!

Another cosmic happening this week is giant Jupiter's retrograde motion on Tuesday.  Venus,(love, money and values) and Jupiter,(expansion and luck) are in harmony in Earth signs, Virgo and Taurus respectively, very early in the morning. This union supports being selective about where we place our valuables and/or, our affections. Almost immediately after this conjunction, Jupiter turns retrograde for the next four months, reminding us to be thrifty and not to increase our debt; Jupiter is after all in the fixed Earth sign of Taurus! We could expect gold prices to stabilize and banks to be trying hard to hold on to what they've got, which is what we all should be doing!

Libra Moon works hard on Tuesday to keep things in balance, but change and upheaval are the order of the evening, as Luna makes two tough aspects, first opposing unstable Uranus, then squaring off with destructive Pluto. The Moon continues to meet challenges on Wednesday as she interacts with constrictive Saturn, then belligerent Mars. Try to keep your thoughts under wraps and maintain the peace as the balance of power shifts for these two days - not an easy week!

Scorpio Moon comes in on Thursday afternoon, increasing the moodiness and/or creativity of joint endeavors. Scorpio has rulership over shared resources and anything we feel passionate about, so expect people to be guarded and possibly suspicious if you ask for something they aren't willing or able to share, unless you make an offer first, which they cannot refuse - just make sure it's a win/win situation for all involved!

Friday continues the theme of joint and shared values and resources under Scorpio Moon. The Sun in Virgo supports this theme as our outward energy is directed toward cooperating with Jupiter in Taurus, a similar affect as the Venus/Jupiter aspect mentioned above, but with much greater power! The Sun represents life-force and Jupiter expands whatever he comes into contact with, so watch out for exaggerated promises or the urge to do too much.

After an intense week, Sagittarius Moon helps to lighten the mood Saturday evening and makes it a good time to socialize with friends. Expect to meet some new people or encounter a new situation. Then, next Sunday, the First Quarter Moon may bring an obstacle of some sort that needs to be dealt with and I'm guessing that it will have to do with whatever health regime or schedule you mapped out for yourself at the New Moon, (today). As Sagittarius is future-directed and Virgo can't see the forest for the trees, remind yourself not to get caught up in persnickety details... find some balance and tweak those plans!

Here's something to read and sing along to that speaks to this New Moon's theme:
Spinning Wheel by Blood, Sweat and Tears

What goes up must come down [cowbell enters]
Spinnin' wheel got to go 'round [full drum kit enters]
Talkin' 'bout your troubles it's a cryin' sin
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel spin

You got no money and you got no home

Spinnin' wheel all alone
Talkin' 'bout your troubles and you never learn
Ride a painted pony let the spinnin' wheel turn

Did you find the directing sign on the

Straight and narrow highway
Would you mind a reflecting sign
Just let it shine within your mind
And show you the colors that are real

Someone is waiting just for you

Spinnin' wheel, spinnin' true
Drop all your troubles by the riverside
[1: Catch a painted pony on the spinning wheel ride]
[2: Ride a painted pony let the spinning wheel fly]

Remember, keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground!

Aquarius Full Moon Highlighting an Intense Week

The moon is exactly opposite the sun today at 2:57 p.m. meaning we have arrived at the Full Moon phase in this monthly dance between "the lights", illuminating where we have just come from and shedding light on the path ahead. The moon represents the subconscious while the sun represents the outward drive in life. That these two have reached the mid-point of their dance, the Moon in Aquarius and the Sun in Leo, in fixed signs of the zodiac, should show us where we are at in dealing with our "outward compliance and inward design".

OK, ok... so WHAT does that mean anyway?! For me, it means that I get to see if my plan for putting into action my passion(s) for moving ahead are proceeding along the path I intended. Aquarius is the fixed Air sign having to do with groups and friendships; who we surround ourselves with is important if we want to feel supported to reach our goals. Leo is the fixed Fire sign and has to do with our child-like creativity and enjoyment of life. This Full Moon can show us how well we're doing in these two areas of our lives, especially if we know where Leo/Aquarius is in our natal chart. Another way of saying this is, "are you having any fun yet?!"

This is going to surprise some of my regular readers who know how long-winded I can be, but that's all I want to say right now! Mull it over, meditate, dance under the light of the moon and get back to me tomorrow - I'll have more to say then!

In the meantime, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground!

Behind The Eight-ball... Temperatures Rising... Looking For A Break...!?

Hello again - I have to tell you that before Mercury went retrograde on the second, I had already experienced a couple of communication snafus and mechanical breakdowns as well as finding little to no time to write down my thoughts on the upcoming transits, Leo New Moon or Mercury retrograde. Sooo, now that Mercury IS backtracking and just in time for he/she to re-enter Leo, I'm getting this Blog written!

A little reminder about Mercury retrograde: Mercury is the energetic "messenger of the gods" bringing communication from on-high, out there, whatever you choose to think of as the source of information. The ability to reason, be logical and gather information is from Mercury. How things fit together and how we interpret communication is also a Mercury function, therefore, when this 'first rock from the Sun' appears to be moving backwards, from our perspective on the 'third rock from the Sun', it is common to have misunderstandings and misinterpretations with others. Mercury retrograde periods occur three or four times a year and allow our brains to slow down and take a second look for re-examination, re-search, or re-view.

As Mercury is re-tracing its' steps and just now re-entering Leo, the fun-loving fiery sign of summer, it also opposes Neptune, symbolizing creativity, spiritual impressions and escapist tendencies. When communication (Mercury) and nebulousness (Neptune) are in direct opposition to one another, thoughts and words can become very alluring or really confusing! I suggest sitting down in meditation today and getting in touch with your inner knowing-ness. The insights you gain could be very valuable, especially as they relate to your associations with others and how engaging or stubborn you can be when it comes to interacting for a common purpose. Remember that you are looking for insight and don't allow yourself to become locked into any one way because you may have to change your mind in early September when Mercury has already been direct for awhile and moved back into Virgo. Virgo is the sign of exquisite detection and you'll know your answer by then!

The work week starts with a buoyant Sagittarian moon, in effect until Tuesday at 4:25p.m. Seeing the bigger picture and staying optimistic is easier under this adaptable Fire sign. This week is the lead-up to the Full Moon so some things have to be begun or decided, even if it is preliminary and involves a fact-finding committee who agree to put off the BIGGER decisions until early September. Try to keep your spirits up the rest of the week as the cosmos is about to serve up some walloping doses of  "how's that working for you now"?!

On Tuesday, aggressive Mars squares off with unstable Uranus. This energy has been in effect for several days already so you may have some hint of where things feel like they are about to erupt as this becomes exact at 12:34p.m. Do your level best to avoid angry, violent people and situations, including driving too fast or working with potentially explosive materials, sharp knives and/or electric devices. If you are feeling like you need to blow off some steam, try going to the beach and screaming into the wind, or stand in an empty field like a scarecrow suddenly come to life and swing your arms around yelling whatever wants to come out!  BTW... I would not be surprised if Mt. Etna or any other active volcano blew their top between now and the Full Moon on Saturday.

The Capricorn Moon comes in to take care of business for a mere 24 hours - between 4:38pm Tuesday and 4:34pm Wednesday, and oh, the things that need to be dealt with... One problem may be that whomever is in charge is not able to handle everything and meets "beaucoup" resistance on Wednesday. The best thing I can think of to say is remember what's important to you and don't compromise your values or be pressed into hasty action by outside pressures, which you can be sure there will be plenty of this week! If you're the boss, try not to issue edicts or serve up ultimatums, unless you're ready to work alone. This is not the time for button-pushing!

That impulsive planet Mars, pushing his way through watery Cancer, representing home and emotional well-being, jumps into action again on Thursday as he opposes transformational Pluto in the sign of Capricorn, ruling big business and government. Pluto is so far out in the solar system and has such an unusual orbit around the Sun, it's like a visitor from another galaxy whose intentions are to eliminate the old decaying structures so new growth can occur; the energy is always a process of disintegration, death and rebirth. Pluto is said to be the "higher octave" of Mars and I think that when these two planetary energies engage each other it's like the fiesty little kid on the playground standing up to the bully, knowing full-well he'll probably get his ass kicked but if he doesn't stand up to this threat nothing changes. Guess who throws the first punch?! We have already seen an example of this energy pattern in No. London in the last couple of days as the aspect becomes exact.

I'd like to think that Friday's Aquarius Moon brings a more reasonable approach to events of the past week and gives people new insight into how to break through old issues. Aquarian symbolism is inventive, intellectual and humanitarian, often best expressing itself through groups, rather than personally. When the Moon moves through this freedom-loving territory, individual rights and innovative ideas get the green light. The Full Moon on Saturday is in this Fixed Air sign of the zodiac, highlighting awareness and what is in the  the best interest of the community. How well we have done letting our little lights shine since the Leo New Moon on July 30th, will be reflected during this Full Moon. Look to read or hear about innovative ways of dealing with collective issues or new technologies that benefit communication at the week's end.

While you're keeping an open mind, remember to also keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground1
