The Vernal Equinox and Full Moon in Libra

Welcome to International Astrology Day - when the Sun moves into Aries for the start of Spring! That happens tonight at 5:59 pm EST when good ole Sol begins his journey through the zodiac each year, also known as the Vernal Equinox. With the Sun in Aries, Cardinal Fire, the focus is on initiation, self-motivation and looking ahead. Mars, as ruler of Aries, brings a restless need for self-expression and movement.

But wait, there's more... just a few hours later, at 9:43 pm EST, The Sun in Aries opposes the Moon in Libra for a Full Moon! It's a busy day with the Sun, Moon, Mercury and Mars all making aspects to each, or other planets. Today is like riding a merry-go-round or spinning a wheel-of-fortune... lots going on and you won't know exactly what to expect, where to get on or off. Try to keep your original focus for today's to-do list and don't be discouraged if things don't exactly go the way you had planned.

Keep in mind, that much of this activity takes place in the morning, with the last aspect of the Moon in Virgo being a  somewhat challenging square from the Moon to ebullient Jupiter in Sagittarius at 11:22 am. The challenge is to know your limits and where you can or cannot go at this time. This begins a lengthy void-of-course Moon period until the Moon enters Libra at 9:28 pm tonight, to oppose the Sun shortly thereafter, also known as the Full Moon!

It's as if the busy Moon was worn out from all her morning activities and needs an afternoon nap before the Sun jumps into Aries at 5:59 pm, and she needs her rest in order to keep her balance and not be spun out of control by the Martian energy of Aries. Actually, Venus in Aquarius squares off with Mars in Taurus overnight, both vying to call the shots on what direction to move in and how to connect with others in the most productive way possible.

Here we go again, trying to balance our desire for fresh starts with our need to keep relationships harmonious! What a conundrum, this dance of self and other, and how to get our own needs met without compromising our commitments to the important people in our lives. Issues of fairness, equality and teamwork arise. It's necessary to look at both sides now.

Remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground at this auspicious start of the new astrological year!

The Subtle, Yet Potent, New Moon in Pisces

Welcome to a lunar month of getting to know yourself better, trusting your intuition more and remaining as observant as possible! The New Moon in Pisces is closely aligned with the ruler of this Mutable Water sign - Neptune. That calls for tuning into the undercurrents of our feeling selves, whether spiritually, humanely or artistically. We have good reason to do this.

Feelings can flow in uninvited and continuously, ebbing and flowing like the tide. There's a message here... to look closely at the past and what needs to be released so that you can start anew during the next lunar cycle. Pisces is the last sign of the Zodiac and Mercury having retrograded yesterday at the last degree of Pisces, wants us to let go of what is no longer necessary. This may be difficult given the emotional entanglement of this compassionate sign. But that is our job for the next few weeks - to sit with our intuition and any psychic hits that show us where to set boundaries . Compassion and caring is one thing, being overly impressionable and vulnerable is another. What doesn't serve you or the greater good? Gently release it - a higher power has this.

Today is also the day Uranus enters Taurus for the next seven years. Revolutionary, disrupting and freedom-loving, the nature of Uranus is sudden, awakening and often necessary. The job of this planet is to shake us loose from constricting patterns that have outlived their usefulness. It can appear as a bolt out of the blue, an intuition or original idea whose time has come. Resisting change will only promote instability and fear, which prolongs the growth of new attitudes and ways of being from coming in to our institutions.

Where does Uranus' lightning bolt strike... in Taurus, Fixed Earth! The stability we have felt is being uprooted and inventive resources are being uncovered. This is of course, very unsettling at first. "It has all happened so fast! What am I/are we to do?!"  The very core of our financial foundations or the people who have been like a rock to us can breakdown, change, or move and we are left without an anchor, a moral compass or a touchstone that we have previously relied on. Why is this happening now?! Perhaps because it is time to set new foundations and to use our resources in a more enlightened manner, one that works to support a new paradigm.

While you are identifying what no longer serves you, remember to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

February Full Moon in Virgo & Chiron in Aries

Todays' Full Moon in Virgo is also known as a Supermoon because of its' closeness to the Earth. Interestingly enough, Virgo is a Mutable Earth sign and its' ruler, Mercury, is very active in this chart for the Full Moon.  The Sun entered Pisces yesterday and the Moon enters Virgo at 9:47 am, setting up their 01 Pisces and 01 Virgo opposition precisely at 10:54 am this morning.

The awareness of the Lights opposing each other in complimentary Earth/Virgo and Water/Pisces, has us recognizing and dealing with the stresses in our lives that we need to take steps toward healing. This is a powerful Moon, acting as the handle of a Bucket pattern in todays' chart, swinging us around with new ideas and directions we could take. Thanks to Mars being in early degrees of Taurus (Earth) in a supporting role to the Moon, we have added drive to take necessary action. Uranus isn't quite in Taurus yet, but at the last degree of Aries, doesn't want to be left out of this opportunity to add fresh insight and possible ingenuity in courageously moving forward.

Ask yourself where you need to take action and clear space in your head or your house, or your office to make room for the new beginnings you envisioned at the February New Moon. What is cluttering up your mind, or your desk, that needs to be addressed in order to achieve the goals you set two weeks ago? Virgo's domain involves digestion of ideas as well as food. Filtering what we eat and how we think are very important to this Full Moon. Keep space around you and question boundaries, be discerning in what you let in or let go of!

Even though Mercury is in its detriment in Pisces and conjunct Neptune, we have to understand the inherent power here of being in touch with our subconscious mind and the gems offered us through meditation or dreams. Being aligned positively with Venus and Saturn, the power of the mind to connect with others in a a complimentary way, while recognizing the seriousness of the time, gives us the ability to work together and compromise. Try to avoid making promises you can't keep or going too far overboard with your ideas.

At the end of this lunar cycle, on March 5th, Mercury goes retrograde at 29 Pisces and 6 minutes, backtracking to 16Pisces08', where it is now. That gives us two months while the "messenger of the Gods" moves both backwards and forward through this retrograde and shadow phase to understand the significance of the above on our relationships.

Yesterday, Chiron, considered a planetoid, whose orbit runs between Saturn (the body) and Uranus (the unknown), otherwise known alternately as "The Wounded Healer", entered Aries, where he will remain through 2027. Being courageous, honest and open in dealing with conflict, whether personal or out in the world, is Chirons' process of healing through new experiences. In myth he is half horse, half human, a Centaur closely aligned with Sagittarius in the Zodiac. For me, Chiron shows us how we hurt and how we heal and where we can become the teacher to others going through similar hurts. But Chiron can also get self-righteous if not completely honest with his own level of healing. There is a strong connection here to physicians and therapists, and for that reason, I like to invoke the following... "physician, heal thyself"... first.

Remember, while doing all this excellent mental, emotional and physical house-cleaning in preparation for something greater, to keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.

New Moon in Aquarius

Today's New Moon comes in at 4:04 pm in the intellectual and progressive sign of Aquarius. This Fixed Air sign of the zodiac has qualities of stubbornness and persistence, giving it the ability to make new forms into permanent structures. Aquarius brings people together in groups and committees to brainstorm the best ideas for the overall good of the whole. It is, in my opinion, the secret to " Oneness".

Isn't it time to feel supported in your personal and/or professional efforts? Are you hanging out with the right people who can be there for you, or are you just melting into the background waiting for another time to express yourself? A New Moon is the time for a new beginning and an Aquarius New Moon is an encouraging time to start something new, especially as it connects us with others and allows us the individual freedom to be a part of something innovative that both supports us and serves a greater purpose.

The chart for this New Moon shows positive alignments between the Sun, Moon and Jupiter. This allows for the networking of groups with original and inventive ideas that can expand in the world. With Jupiter in his ruling sign of Sagittarius, these opportunities can come through study, law, travel or spiritual connection. Expanding the mind can come about in different ways for different people. Be considerate in letting others follow their own path(s) to enlightenment; after all, both Aquarius and Sagittarius cherish independence.

Another opportunity presenting itself at this New Moon is the ability to envision new structures, thanks to a short-lived alignment of responsible Saturn with imaginative Neptune. It isn't often that the disciplined energy of Saturn and the escapist tendencies of Neptune play well together. At the very least, take some time tonight or tomorrow to write down five practical steps to manifesting your dreams.

Remember to keep your head in the stars (Neptune) and your feet on the ground(Saturn)~

January's Full Moon, Sun In Aquarius & The Total Lunar Eclipse

The Sun moved into Aquarius, Fixed Air, this morning. That brings our attention to self-expression and communication, particularly by sharing information in groups. This freedom-loving sign of the Zodiac is original, inventive and friendly. Other attributes of Aquarius are being unconventional or revolutionary. The ruling planet, Uranus, is an electrical energy that acts somewhat spontaneously and often out-of-the-blue. That energy figures strongly in the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse overnight.

You've probably been feeling the build-up to this long weekend's Leo Full Moon all around you - in the news, in the weather and in your communities and relationships. Let's just say, there's a lot going on, especially with a Total Lunar Eclipse capping it off! The Sun and Moon are aligned with the Moon's Nodes, hence an Eclipse, and all are squaring off with unconventional Uranus. That basically means expect the unexpected!

The eclipse will be visible across North America... if we don't have cloud cover. It will also be seen across South America, Europe, the Middle East, most of Africa and northeastern Asia. The eclipse degree of 1 Leo has as its' Sabian Symbol, "Under Emotional Stress, Blood Rushes To A Man's Head". What an interesting symbol for many world leaders! In the US chart, this degree sits at the Mid-heaven, a most auspicious point for being seen out in the world. If you're dealing with a lot of stress, or someone around you is, try to use your rational mind to avoid over reacting or exploding. Take a time-out in nature or meditation to look at what is causing your own frustration and what you can do about that. Since it's an eclipse, expect the effects to play out over a period of weeks and months.

Personally, it may be wise to use the Aquarius Sun and Leo Moon energy in a creative, kind of break-through way in the areas of your life influenced by the planets' chart positions.  Brain-storming with friends or a committee of like-minded others can lead to new insights and approaches that individuals can bring to the collective bargaining table. Venus and Jupiter are sitting together in forward-thinking Sagittarius for a much needed dose of optimism and truth-seeking. Be aware that these two planets are in a challenging aspect to Neptune, purveyor of dreams, idealism and cons. If it appears to be too good to be true, it probably is, so avoid financial or emotional speculation. Allow the Aquarian Sun to provide a detached assist.

Don't bury your head in the sand, but do keep a low profile and remember that this too shall pass as you strive to maintain a calm demeanor while all around you appears to be in utter chaos. Here's hoping you can keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground~

New Moon Solar Eclipse in Capricorn

We start every new year with the Sun in Capricorn, but it's not every year that Saturn and Pluto are there and closely aligned to a New Moon Solar Eclipse. Welcome to knowing our responsibilities better... welcome to working harder to make future gains... and welcome to learning the true meaning of patience! Plant seeds for new growth during this lunar phase, beginning with a "wish list" of steps you can take to achieve some success down the road.

The eclipse brings in a change, something that needs to be let go of. As a Solar eclipse it's more about changes outside of us that will nevertheless affect us. This eclipse at 15 Capricorn and 25 minutes, will affect different people in varying degrees of intensity, depending on where that degree falls in your Natal chart and if it triggers any planets directly. Remember that Capricorn rules big business, leaders and physical structures as well as the body and it's skeletal system.

Capricorn is the Cardinal Earth sign ruled by Saturn, the planetary energy of contraction. Where do you need to conserve your resources, energy or socializing? This is a serious time of year, especially as the Sun (life force), Moon (disposition), and Pluto (powerful feelings) join together here. People can be very emotional, even obsessive, if not careful. Keep space around you, give space, and know that we are in a time of transition and that any changes must be carefully thought out! If things don't go accordingly, resolve to release blockages by the First Quarter Moon on the 13th in preparation for the enlightenment and/or fulfillment at the Lunar Eclipse Full Moon in Leo on January 21st.

Both the Sun and Moon are separating from a lovely aspect with compassionate Neptune. If you have recently, last 2 days... become aware of a spiritual or creative need to express yourself, know that this is a positive antidote to all the intensity swirling around us. If you haven't already connected those dots and begun something of a humanitarian or artistic nature, take some time today to tune into and decide how to use this sensitivity.

Remember, a New Moon is a chance to start over, and while doing so, keep your head in the stars and your feet on the ground.
